Magnesium and Your Health

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in your body. If you don’t have enough of it, your body simply cannot function at its best. Insufficient cellular magnesium levels set the stage for deterioration of proper metabolic function that typically snowballs into more significant health problems.

As reported by GreenMedInfo [1] researchers have now detected 3,751 magnesium-binding sites on human proteins, reflecting how important this mineral is to a great many biological processes. For example, magnesium plays a role in your body’s detoxification processes and therefore is important for minimizing damage from environmental chemicals, heavy metals, and other toxins.

Your Best Magnesium Source: REAL Food

Most people can keep their magnesium levels in the therapeutic range without resorting to supplements, simply by eating a varied diet, including plenty of dark-green leafy vegetables. However, it is important to remember that the magnesium content of your foods depends on the richness of magnesium in the soil where they’re grown. GreenMedInfo lists more than 20 foods that are exceptionally high in magnesium, including the following (for the full list, please refer to the original report). All listed portions equate to 100 grams, or just over three ounces:

Seaweed, agar, dried (770 mg)
Spices – basil, dried (422 mg)

Flaxseed (392 mg)
Dried pumpkin seeds (535 mg)

Magnesium Supllements

Magnesium citrate — Magnesium citrate is the most popular magnesium supplement, probably because it is inexpensive and easily absorbed. Since citric acid is a mild laxative, magnesium citrate functions as a constipation aid as well as a magnesium source. It is a great choice for individuals with rectal or colon problems but is unsuitable for those with loose bowel movements.

Magnesium taurate — Magnesium taurate is the best choice of magnesium supplement for people with cardiovascular issues, since it is known to prevent arrhythmias and guard the heart from damage caused by heart attacks. Magnesium taurate is easily absorbed (magnesium and taurine stabilize cell membranes together), and it contains no laxative properties.

Magnesium malate — Magnesium malate is a fantastic choice for people suffering from fatigue, since malic acid — a natural fruit acid present in most cells in the body — is a vital component of enzymes that play a key role in ATP synthesis and energy production. Since the ionic bonds of magnesium and malic acid are easily broken, magnesium malate is also highly soluble.

Magnesium glycinate — Magnesium glycinate (magnesium bound with glycine, a non-essential amino acid) is one of the most bioavailable and absorbable forms of magnesium, and also the least likely to induce diarrhea. It is the safest option for correcting a long-term deficiency.

Magnesium oxide — Magnesium oxide is the most common form of magnesium sold in pharmacies, but it is non-chelated and possesses a poor absorption rate.

Of the many forms of Magnesium supplements available today, a newer form called Magnesium Threonate shows particular promise due to its ability to penetrate cell membranes, even those in your brain.

I want to remind you that calcium and magnesium also needs to be balanced with vitamin D and K2. These four nutrients perform an intricate dance together, with one supporting the other.

Suggested Magnesium daily dose between 400-600mg.

There’s nothing new about the medicinal use of plants. Our ancestors have used plants, seeds, wood and resins from nature to care for themselves and their families since the beginning of time.

Best Essential Oils for Thyroid

  1. Myrrh is an adaptogenic aid, which means it brings balance to the body however needed, much like maca, rhodiola and ashwagandha that you may have heard of. Myrtle oil has been researched by Daniel Penoel, M.D. of France for normalizing hormonal imbalances of the thyroid and ovaries. According to Dr. David Stewart, Ph.D., myrtle oil can help increase or decrease thyroid function depending on what type of imbalance occurs. Since it helps reduce stress and inflammation associated with an underactive thyroid, it can also help decrease stress on an overtaxed thyroid.
  2. Frankincense can help with many different symptoms of an underactive thyroid. One is a weak digestive system, specifically in the form of indigestion and constipation. A tiny drop of food-grade frankincense oil taken orally may act the same way that digestive enzymes do and help to speed up the digestive process. Frankincense can also balance hormone levels to reduce stress and help you sleep better at night. It is also helpful for relieving dry skin associated with low thyroid function.
  3. Clove Oil – this oil has an antioxidant (ORAC) score of over 1,000,000! So, this is definitely an oil you’ll want to consider for supporting your entire body. Clove is also high in phenols (about 80%). “Phenols clean the receptor sites of the cells. Without clean receptor sites, cells cannot communicate and the body malfunctions, resulting in sickness.” – Dr. David Stewart
  4. Lemongrass can help with inflammation, headaches and digestive upset associated with an underactive thyroid. Though the plant is very useful in cooking, the EO can be used just as easily.
  5. Clary Sage EO – A 2014 study published in the Journal of Phytotherapy Research found that inhalation of clary sage oil had the ability to reduce cortisol levels by 36% and improved thyroid hormone levels (TSH). Finally, clary sage oil has antidepressant-like effect which is one of the hypothyroid leading symptoms. The biggest benefit of clary sage is that it helps balance out estrogen production in the body. A lot of health issues today, even things like infertility, PCOS and estrogen-based cancers. Because of that, it’s an incredibly effective essential oil in the a wide array of hormone imbalances.
  6. Peppermint oil can help reduce fatigue, depression, brain fog, headaches and digestive woes associated with underactive thyroid.
  7. Lavender is an excellent essential oil to fight anxiety, hair loss, stress and insomnia.

How and Where to Apply Essential Oils

  1. Topical use

Due to the natural molecular composition of EOs, they’re easily absorbed by the skin and can be safely applied topically, sometimes diluted with a carrier oil and sometimes “neat” (undiluted). Chemical structure of essential oils allows them to be absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin for internal benefit throughout the body. Also once they’re applied, essential oils can have almost an immediate, localized effect to the area where applied. They have restorative and calming properties and can be used very effectively in massage and in combination with acupressure.

Areas to apply: neck thyroid area, thyroid acupressure points on hands, wrists and feet. The bottoms of our feet boast the largest pores on our body and allow quick absorption.

One of my favorite essential oil uses is to simply mix some coconut oil with the essential oil, itself, and rub it on different areas of the body. If you have sensitive skin, dilute  blends well.

  • Rub 2-4 drops of myrrh and lemongrass oil directly on thyroid area, big toes, and wrists several times each day.
  • Put 2-3 drops of Myrrh essential oil (EO) directly onto the thyroid area 2x daily to help decrease symptoms.
  • 1 part Lemongrass, 1 part Myrrh, 1 part carrier oil (I like fractionated coconut oil because this kind of coconut oil soaks into the skin quickly and stays liquid at colder temperatures)
  • 25 drops Lemongrass, 25 drops Clove, 10 drops Frankincense, 25 drops carrier oil

2. Diffuse

When I learned that I could scent my home with something organic and purify the air we breathe, I was in! I like Lotus diffuser by dōTERRA. The essential oils are atomized into minute ion particles and active oxygen anions, which are more easily absorbed by the human body than oils diffused by conventional diffusers. Diffuser releasing the aromatic and therapeutic benefi of essential oils quickly and safely.

Lotus_NEW_Detail_US_WEB_v1The other way to diffuse EO is by taking an aromatic bath. Use 3 drops of frankincense mixed with 5 parts of clove oil and 5 parts of lemongrass oil in your Epsom salt bath.

You can experiment with various blends of essential oils to figure out which one works best for you. It is recommended that you use low or no heat diffusers since they do not interfere with the chemical structure of the oils.

 

3. Internally

Use caution when taking essential oils internally.

Put 2 drops of frankincense oil daily on the roof of the mouth.

Remember that essential oils can be helpful for treating underactive thyroid, but you should also be sure to improve your overall lifestyle and diet.

Osteoporosis & Woman’s Health

Osteoporosis and the broken bones it can cause are not part of normal aging.

Our bones are constantly being remodeled, with bone tissue being broken down and rebuilt on a regular basis. It is much like the natural removal of dead skin to make way for new skin. Peak bone mass usually happens between the ages of 18 and 25. The more bone you have at the time of peak bone mass, the less likely you are to break a bone or get osteoporosis later in life [1].

Bone density (the degree of mineralization of the bone matrix) usually increases until about the age of 30, but after that, trouble can begin. For women, that bone loss speeds up significantly during the first 10 years after menopause when estrogen levels drop sharply. In fact, in the five to seven years after menopause, which is the rapid bone loss period when osteoporosis often develops, women can lose up to 20 percent or more of their bone density. But the loss of bone minerals continues throughout the rest of a person’s life. Osteoporosis sets in when more bone is lost than can be rebuilt. Eventually, bones become brittle and easily fractured.

Did you know…

Healthy teeth and healthy bones go together naturally. If you have osteoporosis, you may have a higher risk of losing your teeth. When your jawbone becomes less dense, teeth can loosen. In fact, women with osteoporosis tend to have fewer teeth than women with normal bone density.

Osteoporosis can be influenced by the following risk factors:

  • Genetics – Women are more at risk.
  • Inactivity – A sedentary lifestyle promotes bone loss as well as muscle loss.
  • Smoking [2] – The longer you smoke and the more cigarettes you consume, the greater your risk of fracture in old age.
  • Menopause [3] and increased belly fat – The study in Journal Bone [4] revealed that women with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 – which is considered overweight, with more belly fat had increased bone marrow fat and lowered bone density.
  • High-acid diet – (high in animal protein and grains, low in vegetables and fruit) causes an increase in urinary excretion of calcium, leading to bone loss.
  • High consumption of animal protein – Some studies have shown that a diet high in animal protein actually promotes bone loss by leaching calcium from the bones
  • Lack of Vitamin D, K2, Calcium – For the calcium to bind and ultimately become bone, it requires the services of vitamins K-2 and D-3. One study followed over 72,000 women for 10 years. It was found that women who had the lowest intake of vitamin K-2 had a 30% higher risk of hip fractures. Women who had the highest intake of vitamin K-2 had a 65% lower incidence of hip fractures [5].
  • Excessive alcohol intake – due to the diuretic effect of alcohol, which induces calcium losses through the urine. Alcohol can also decrease the absorption of calcium from the intestines and cause deficiencies in vitamin D and magnesium – both of which are important to bone health.
  • Colas and coffee [6] – due to caffeine intake and phosphoric acid in cola that leaches calcium out of the bone.

There is a lot you can do to protect your bones throughout your life.

Suggested lifestyle changes for Osteoporosis prevention:

  1. Sardines. I always say eat bones for your bones. That’s why I love sardines. Three ounces of canned sardines give you almost as much calcium as a cup of milk. These tiny fish also have a big supply of vitamin D.
  2. Fennel. New research published in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine [7] shows eating the seeds of the fennel plant had a beneficial effect on loss of bone mineral density, as well as bone mineral content. Researchers indicated that fennel seeds show potential in preventing bone loss in postmenopausal osteoporosis.
  3. Plenty of Vegetables. Fresh, raw vagetables, [8] especially leafy greens supplies your body with nutrients that are essential for bone health, like vitamin K1 and potassium. Your body needs potassium to maintain proper pH levels in your body fluids, and optimize your sodium to potassium ratio which also affects your bone mass. Get enough calcium. Choose organic, high quality dairy products such as yogurt. Eat more dark green vegetables like collard greens, bok choy and broccoli, If you find it difficult to eat the recommended amount of vegetables you need daily, give vegetable juicing a try.                                                                                                             Watch youtube video Juicing vs Blending FullSizeRender-7                So in order to get the benefits of calcium-rich foods, you need to consume magnesium-rich foods as well, like flaxseeds, chia seeds and pumpkin seeds, grass-fed beef, swiss chard, almonds, avocados, black beans.
  1. Fermented Vegetables. Vitamin K2, also called menaquinone, is made by the bacteria that line your gastrointestinal tract. The biological role of vitamin K2 is to help move calcium into the proper areas in your body, such as your bones and teeth. It also plays a role in removing calcium from areas where it shouldn’t be, such as in your arteries and soft tissues. Fermented vegetables, which are one of my new passions, primarily for supplying beneficial bacteria back into our gut, can be a great source of vitamin K.
  2. Make sure you get enough vitamin D. I recommend supplementing with 2,000 IU daily for adults.
  3. Increase weight-bearing activities, such as walking, weight training and calisthenics. Try to do at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
  4. Bone Broth. As chicken or beef marrow bones simmer in the pot for hours they release collagen, the material that helps keep your bones flexible. Click here for my Bone Broth recipe.
  5. Fruit and berries. Vitamin C helps new osteoblasts form to build new bone and also helps build the collagen network. Kiwi a great source of vitamin C, so are berries, citrus fruits, bell peppers.
  6. Bone Nutrients. do–TERRA Women Bone Nutrient Lifetime Complex is a blend of vitamins and minerals that are essential for bone health in women beginning in adolescence and continuing through menopause. Try this “Silicone Building” tea or infusion:

Pour 1/2 liter of boiling water over 2 heaping teaspoons of dried horsetail, 2 teaspoons oat straw and 2 teaspoons stinging nettle. Strain after 10 minutes for tea or leave overnight to make infusion.

There is a big controversy about Benefits and risks of osteoporosis drugs and that bone strengthening drugs actually cause bone fractures. There are lots of resources on internet so I will let you be the judge.

You’re never too young or too old to improve the health of your bones. Whatever your age, the habits you adopt now can affect your bone health for the rest of your life. Now is the time to take action.

My Detox Journey

Ok so I am a little bit excited – we are starting Spring Detox!!!!

I couldn’t believe my husband who asked me few days ago – “so when are we doing detox?”
This is a man who grew up on American diet – pizza, beer… It was a while ago since he joined healthy living, but I still get surprised when he asks me about detox. First time he did detox “just for me” – to please me. After he got tons of compliments how ‘fresh and healthy” he looks and how great he felt after the detox, now he is the one who reminds me that it is time to do a detox. I am so excited.

Why do we do detox?  

There are a lot of reasons. But there is one especially important for me – to keep my thyroid and immune function at the optimum level.  I was diagnosed with “thyroiditis” over 15 years ago.  Doctors didn’t give the diagnosis of Hashimotos thyroiditis then even my thyroid antibodies were elevated. Over the years I had suffered with hypothyroidism and everything that comes with this disease.  Diet and lifestyle made huge difference how I feel, even I still continue taking hormone replacement therapy for my thyroid.  By detoxifyling my liver and cleaning my gut, I feel like a normal person.  Do I like a process of detoxification? No, I don’t.  But it is only 2 weeks once or twice a year.  I can hande it.  Anyone can handle it.

‪Resently I read an article how detox‬ and ‪intermittent fasting‬ can regenerate entire immune system. [1] The Telegraph recently reported that scientists at the University of Southern California (USC) have discovered that fasting “for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system even in the elderly, scientists have found in a breakthrough described as ‘remarkable.’” Scientists at the University of Southern California found that fasting could be especially beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems (Hashimoto thyroiditis is one of them), such as cancer patients on chemotherapy and it could also help the elderly whose immune system becomes less effective as they age. The researchers say fasting “flips a regenerative switch” which prompts stem cells to create brand new white blood cells, essentially regenerating the entire immune system. Valter Longo, corresponding author of the study and a professor at the USC Davis School of Gerontology, stated: “When you starve, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of the immune cells that are not needed, especially those that may be damaged.”

So here is my detox journey:

Day #1

I find that first day is always overwhelming.  It goes a lot of reorganizing meals and daily routine. I have to pay attention when and what I will be eating.  I am a habit person, so I feel a bit out of my comfort zone.  Plus I have to think about my husband as well because he is in this journey with me.

I am not hungry. If anything, I am full of excitement.
Day #2 

It’s a family detox. Feeling energetic, not hungry, slept well. Yesterday we went for a nice long walk, made my steps for a day – 15.000! ‪Feel good about myself‬ 🙂 Today my goal is to pay attention how my body and see what it really needs – exercise, rest, food, pampering, etc.

Day #3

Today woke up alert and rested before my alarm clock went off. Yeah 🙂 Love early mornings. I had extra time for a ‪yoga‬! One thing I noticed, every time I do detox, I have lots of energy first thing in the morning, need less sleep, and my flexibility is much better. I get time to time stiffness in my hips (not unusual sign with ‪‎thyroid disease‬ I have), but during detox, it seems to melt away.

Day #4

Everything is going extremely well.  I leaned that I need to pay extra attention to my adrenals.  Adrenal health is very important foor the healthy thyroid function.  During detox, I give an extra support to this gland by adding extra Vit C, sea salt, rest, relaxation.

Energy is still good.  No coffee or tea needed to get me going in the morning nad it satys throughout the day.  I love this continues flow of energy without dips and cravings.  Although I noticed that I am ready to go to sleep earlier.

Day #5

Today will be our last pre-detox day. Tomorrow we will be starting 2-nd stage of this process – juice detox.

Liver harbours lots of emotions. On a day to day basis not always we express ourselves freely, so some of those emotions get hidden away. When we detox, liver does physical and emotional detoxification. Thats why we sometimes see those hidden emotions beeing released. It could be anger, frustration, anxiety, depression. It’s a good feeling. My Mom after 3 days of detox says: my legs are very heavy, I barely can move them. She took a break from yoga and her exercises, so it couldn’t be that. We started thinking why she is feeling this way. My Mom’s brother died just before she started detox. She was flooded with lots of emotions – anger, frustration, sorrow… She didn’t released them, she hid them at the moment, because she had to attend the funeral, do her usual daily chores and on top of that prepare for the detox that she never did before. Her unreleased emotions “deposited’ in her legs. I asked my Mom to use the opportunity of detox not just for physical cleanse of the body, but also to look deep inside and to do some emotional cleanse as well. It took a day of TLC, and she felt better. For some people can take longer to clear emotional burden, it really depends how ready you are to do so. I am so happy for my Mom, detox came very timely for her.

I felt a bit on edge first 2 days emotionally. I think a lot has to do with a change in daily routine. Even this is not the first my detox, I felt that my mind decided to do detoxification, but for my body it took 2 days to accept it. By the evening of day 2, something “flipped” inside me and all of the sudden I felt lighter and smiled.

Today I had great energy and met my ‪‎fitness goals‬ – yoga and walking.

Day #6

Lovely green juice to start my fabulous looking day.  I juice on the regular basis, but detox juices are a bit different.  It sounds sckary – how will I function all day by drinking only green juices.  Trully, I feel great – lighter in the body and mind.

Day #7

Today I picked up great energy. Surprisingly how pure juice works like “super nutritional blood infusion”.  Because of my hypothyroism, I have tendency to feel colder than most people.  During detox I really feel cold. I usually try to aim to do detox when it is nice, warm and sunny weather, but not always you can count on it when you are living in London.  I even shared this experiece with my colonics expert I use and respect.  She said that she and most of her clients feel the same way and it is a normal reaction when liver detoxifies to feel slightly colder than usual.  Especially after enema administration. I guess I will dressing up in lots of layers like “onion”.

Day #8 

Have you ever had colonics and enema? I like to have one session of colonics and daily coffee enema during juicing stage of detox. It’s amazing how well it makes me feel. Coffee enema super beneficial for liver detoxification. As the juices begin rebuilding the body and encouraging toxins to be released from the cells into the bloodstream, a great deal of stress is placed upon the liver. The coffee enemas increase liver filtering, greatly aiding the liver’s ability to remove serum toxins. Certain substances in the coffee stimulate an important detoxification enzyme in the liver as well as dilate the bile ducts and increase the flow of bile. A secondary benefit of the coffee enema is to increase peristalsis which helps to empty the bowel. So far I had 5. It is something we don’t talk much about it. Before I started doing it, I had lots of thoughts and excuses why I don’t want to do it. Once I started and got a hang of it, it is easy, simple and fast at the comfort of my own home. It takes a bit of commitment, but I wouldn’t do detox without it.

Day #9 

Today I had a great start – short light yoga and lovely green juice. Feel good about myself

Yesterday was Sunday, so I used the day to my full advantage – spa day! I spend all day pampering myself and helping body detoxify through my skin. A nice face steam and a mask followed by a body coffee scrub and a hot soak in the lavender Epsom salt bath. I had all these coffee grinds from coffee enema, so I used it for a lovely body polish. Soaking in a hot bath helped me to sweat, relax and detoxify through skin. It was a true relaxation. Love my detoxification process.

My energy is staying stable, although I reduced the daily physical load. I am giving my body a break. I don’t feel weak or dizzy. During the day I am not hungry at all. Some hunger in the evening, but I break it by going to bed earlier. I like to go to bed early on the daily basis and wake up early. That way I feel the most productive. During detox I am putting my head on the pillow around 9:30pm. Today we woke up 6am. It’s a good 8 1/2 hour sleep. Just perfect 🙂

Day #10 

Today will be our last day of 5 day juicing.

Yesterday I treated myself to a nice massage. I love a good massage – it relaxes, assist in lymphatic system drainage and simply feels good. We need personal touch and hugs. It helps to produce happy hormone Oxytocin and once we are happy, we are feeling better, our bodies function more efficiently, we make other people happier and get the same in return.

I don’t usually dream at night. But strangely enough, during this detox I have been dreaming every night. Dreams are very realistic. No wonder that people who want to meditate deeper or reach deep into their sole, they go on restricted food diet. It makes easier to connect with inner you and subconscious mind.

Post-detox

Our family detox is coming to the end. Few days of introduction of lighter solid food before we jump in eating regular meals.

To summarise our detox:

I am very happy and proud of my husband and my Mom for joining me in this detox journey. We gave a rest to our bodies, treated ourselves well, nourished it with supreme nutrition. It wasn’t easy all the time. It is a commitment, but results are great.
I didn’t mind a little hunger, I like green juices, I like how light and well intune my body feels, my skin is bright, no fogginess of the brain, some weight loss (I didn’t need or wanted to loose weight, but it happens).
My least favourite moments – I have hard time taking clay-fibre shakes (I really dislike them), I don’t like that I feel colder.

Frankincense – the Liquid Gold

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their therapeutic and healing properties as part of the practice of aromatherapy.

Frankincense-treeFrankincense oil is sourced from the resin of the Boswellia carterii or Boswellia sacara small, shrubby tree with white flowers that’s commonly grown in Somalia. This tree is different from many others in that it can grow with very little soil in dry and desolate conditions.

The word frankincense comes from the term “franc encens,” which means quality incense in old French.

 When in doubt start with Frankincense

Research shows traditional use of Frankincense in driving away evil spirits (Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, French, Asian folklore and rituals), and if we think of these spirits as obsessions, fears and anxieties which may have become manifest as physical illness, we understand the benefits of applying Frankincense for all occasions. In Somali, Ethiopian, Arabian, and Indian cultures, it is suggested that burning frankincense daily in the house brings good health.

It can help relieve pain, cramps, constipation, headaches, anxiety, nausea, fatigue, and mood swings. Frankincense oil also helps with regulating estrogen production and reduces the risk of tumor or cyst development in pre-menopausal women.

2. May Help Fight Cancer, or Deal with Chemotherapy Side Effects

Frankincense has been documented all over the world to have a very strong Cancer deterrent factor –Nicole Stevens has produced current research on effectiveness of essential oils with eliminating cancer. Dr. Hsueh-Kung Lin, published his research on doTERRA’s Frankincense clearly stating that in eliminating many forms of cancerous cells this is the most potent and effective oil he has had the privilege of working with – the fragrance made him more energetic too. Frankincense oil has been shown to help fight cells of specific types of cancer. (4) A 2012 study even found that a chemical compound found in frankincense called AKBA is successful at killing cancer cells that have become resistant to chemotherapy.

3. Managing Emotional and Behaviour Problems – profound psychological and spiritual benefits

Frankincense is the most valuable essential oil for slowing and deepening breathing, helping to allay fear, anxiety, nervous tension and stress. One of the gifts of Frankincense is its’ chemistry – sesquiterpenes–can cross the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) and facilitates oxygenation of cells for optimal communication at the cellular level. In a study that has already triggered follow-up work, sesquiterpenes were shown to increase the number of certain receptors in the brain and are now considered prospects for treatment of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia.* (Frankincense, Sandalwood, Valerian, Myrrh, Vetiver research). Frankincense is helpful in allowing the past to be in the past, and creating an environment in which optimism and an expectation of freedom in dwelling on current successes that allow peace and self-acceptance to take place.

In a 2012 study, researchers found that the “behavioral effect [of insensole actetate] was concomitant to reduced serum corticosterone levels, dose-dependent down-regulation of corticotropin releasing factor and up-regulation of brain derived neurotrophic factor transcripts IV and VI expression in the hippocampus. These data suggest that IA modulates the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and influences hippocampal gene expression, leading to beneficial behavioral effects supporting its potential as a novel treatment of depressive-like disorders.” (*)

4. Heals Skin and Prevents Signs of Aging

Skin treated with the sesquiterpenes allows polar compounds such as water to penetrate more effectively. In skincare, Frankincense is particularly helpful for older skins, and has a definite tonic effect, helping to restore some tone to slack looking facial skin, and slowing down the appearance of wrinkles. Frankincense is safe to use during pregnancy -beneficial for fading of stretch marks, surgery scars or marks associated with pregnancy, and for healing dry or cracked skin. reduces appearance of scars and it may also help reduce the appearance of dark spots caused from acne blemishes.

Worldwide Endometriosis Awareness Week

Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March (and beyond) with a mission to raise awareness of a disease which affects an estimated 176 million women worldwide.
 
Endometriosis affects women and occurs when tissue, similar to the lining of the womb (uterus) grows in other areas of the body. This tissue grows mainly in the abdominal cavity. However, unlike a period, the tissue remains within the body and bleeds forming adhesions (scar tissue), lesions and blood-filled cysts.
 
Symptoms of endometriosis include:
  • Infertility has been associated with endometriosis.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea—particularly just prior to or during the period.
  • Frequent menses flow or short menstrual cycle.
  • Heavy or long menstrual periods
  • Mood swings and fatigue
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms that mimic irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Pelvic Pain, which may include the following:
  • Painful, sometimes disabling menstrual cramps; pain may get worse over time(progressive pain), also lower back pains linked to the pelvis.
  • Over all Pelvic pain, typically accompanied by lower back pain or abdominal pain.
  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Painful bowel movements
  • Urinary urgency, frequency, and sometimes painful voiding
 
Determined on a case by case basis, traditional treatments for endometriosis include:
  • painkillers
  • drug therapy
  • surgery
  • hormonal treatments
  • hysterectomy
  • surgical removal
 
Natural Help:
For any Natural Help, give your body 1 month to heal for every year you have had a problem.

  • Women with endometriosis are likely to have low blood progesterone levels, progesterone resistance, or a short luteal phase.  What this means is that they may be in a state of relative estrogen dominance and/or they may not be making enough progesterone receptors.  This can cause estrogen levels to rise.  When estrogen levels rise, you get too much tissue building up in the endometrium. Reduce Estrogen producing foods such as Soy products, Pasteurized dairy, and non-organic Meats.
  • For Cramps, massage the heel and ankles (as with Reflexology) with 3-4 drops Basil or Geranium. Can also do a lower abdominal massage using 3-4 drops Basil mixed with 1 teaspoon Carrier oil. Message in a clockwise circular direction on the abdomen and a counter-clockwise direction on the corresponding area of the back.
  • For hormonal balance Clarycalm is great essential oil blend
  • Consider taking supplements to help increase your body’s progesterone levels, such as Vitamin C and Chasteberry.
  • Boost your immune system!  Women with endometriosis may have a suboptimal immune system that fails to clear the lesions.  Try implementing probiotics and fermented foods into your routine and avoid sugar! Aloe Vera gel has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect, helps to regulate regulate the immune response and has a broad anti-microbial property. The Aloe stimulates the fibroblasts which produce collagen and elastin, which means they grow faster and heal the damaged areas and membranes. Research has shown that Aloe Vera can increase the rate of healing by about 30%!
Clary Sage can help with homone imbalance. 1-2 drops on inside of ankle, 1x daily.
Eucalyptus radiata can ease inflammation from endotrometriosis.
Lavender helps with cellular regeneration and scar tissue with fibroids.
Cypress helps with circulation.
Frankincense helps with any cancer causing cells…for safety precautions.
